In a change of practice, we saw only two true Prada exclusives this season chosen to walk alongside a cast of big names and promising rising stars. The names that Miuccia Prada and casting director Ashley Brokaw have now put on the radar are “debut” exclusives Jessa Brown from Canada and Gina Bock from Germany. It is certainly an interesting move to have a select smaller number of exclusives in comparison to other designers as well as past seasons. Another model that was exclusive and will only be seen at Prada in Milan this season is Dutch Irene Hiemstra. However, she was not completely unknown until now, having already debuted last season in Paris, and one of the eleven models in the label’s Spring campaign. This season, she was Prada’s looks model and walked only in this show for MFW.
In addition to these three faces, two other models walked only the Prada runway in Milan, but have already made appearances this season. Amanda Murphy, who had debuted at Proenza Schouler earlier this season, both opened and closed the show. The second city exclusive is Joanna Tatarka, who Ashley Brokaw seemed to have taken a liking to in New York. We also saw several interesting surprises on the Prada runway this season. Esther de Jong, Iselin Steiro, Liisa Winkler, Jessica Stam, Mariacarla Boscono, Kirsten Owen (one of the faces of the Prada Spring/Summer 2013 campaign) and Victoria’s Secret Angel Adriana Lima (one of the faces of the Miu Miu Spring/Summer 2013 campaign) were all specially requested to walk for Prada this season.
Hmmm… Is Mrs. Prada totally over the newcomer exclusivity game? Has exclusivity gone out of style? Or maybe Alexander Wang, Hedi Slimane, and Riccardo Tisci are pulling more weight in collecting fresh faces from the middle of nowhere to debut in their shows?
